Eroica Comes to Cambria

Eroica California Comes to Cambria

After the holidays have passed and January has made its debut, life in Cambria tends to slow down a bit. It offers a little breather before gearing up for another year of fun events and happenings in and around Cambria. This year, 2020 promises even more fun when the town of Cambria hosts the Eroica California bike ride this April.

On April 3-5, Cambria will welcome Eroica California for a whole weekend of activities for cyclists and bike enthusiasts. Riders will have the chance to test their endurance and skills as they cycle through the most picturesque areas of the Central Coast.

History of Eroica

Founded in Italy in 1997 by Giancarlo Brocci, L’Eroica was established to reconnect others to the heritage that inspired much Italian history, literature, and culture. This cycling event also serves as a foundation to protect and preserve the gravel roads in Tuscany. Today, Eroica is a new American tradition. Cycling enthusiasts and bike collectors are welcomed to the Central Coast for a weekend of challenging rides and spirited events in celebration of the adventurous pastime of cycling.

The main event, the Eroica Classic, will be held on Sunday, April 5. Riders will experience the beauty of the California coastline from four different routes, ranging from 36 to 108 miles. NOVA Eroica takes place the day before, on April 4. This event is back and better with two new ride options, one 97 miles and the other 72. These challenging group rides include timed segments and are only open to road and gravel bikes. Start and finish lines for all rides will be at the Veteran’s Memorial Building, on the corner of Main and Cambria Drive.

The festivities continue at the Veteran’s Memorial Building with fun for all ages, including special farm dinners and live music. The swap meet will feature vintage bicycles and more, and be open to the public and all festival attendees. Italian vendors from Italy will be on hand to display their goods at the swap meet, alongside vendors from up and down the West Coast. There’s no better place to be for any cycling enthusiast.

Whether you come for the Eroica ride or plan to watch the cyclists from the sidelines, April in Cambria is a beautiful time to visit. You’ll have your choice of Cambria hotels when you stay at the Cambria Inns Collection along Moonstone Beach, including Blue Dolphin Inn, Sand Pebbles Inn, Moonstone Cottages and Castle Inn.
