From December through February, Gray Whales gather along the Central Coast. During this time, they make their way south to warmer waters before returning to the area in spring as they head north. Each of these designated viewpoints, including one in the heart of Cambria, offers signs containing helpful information about the sealife commonly discovered there to make it easier to recognize the marine life you may see.

Of course, you may prefer to get a little closer to the action out on the water. For this, there are several companies that offer whale watching excursions that depart from nearby areas. But we have to admit that it’s pretty special (and convenient!) to spot a whale or dolphin from the comforts of your own hotel room just steps from the sand.
